Il Botteghino

My all-time favourite trattoria in Tuscany is Il Botteghino near Lucca, and I was there on my own for the first time a couple of weeks ago whilst on my way to pick up the gang from Pisa Airport. I had camera aboard too, and this pic is now my desktop background. Pasta Alla Amatriciana, followed by Prosciutto Crudo con Pasta Fritta and fresh spring veg, half a litre of fine Vermentino, and a bottle of fizz - total damage € 12 (£ 8). You have to know them to get that price, the more you visit the better life gets there. regrettably this place is occasionally infested by George Clooney, though that has not put me off going there.

Just looking down at a table like that makes me swoon for another lunch in Italy...

You lucky man!

The last (only) time I saw George Clooney in the flesh, was when he was opening the new development at Battersea Power Station, a dozen years ago.

Since then nothing has happened except everyone has an opinion on what to do. As most of them are public authorities, nothing will ever get done.

I fully expect he will have the same effect on your trattoria, so you'll have many more lunches like that!

I felt somewhat of a prattish tourist, snapping my lunch in front of the other diners, but hey, what the hell, it was a good-looking spread!

is george really a "ladies man" or does he *coughs*prefer the company of other chaps?

I believe Rentokill have a solution for an attack of the Cloonies.

RE Club sandwich with a little bit of tinkering it improves no end.

Looks mouth-wateringly good T.

Sadly we don't get that many good Italian places here in North Carolina, the one's I have found are ok and then you get the bastardized Italian food from chain restaurants.

Hitch I think your right, Clooney surrounds himself with ladies but really he’s looking at the boys!!!

Hitch/Herc, last time he and I were there together he dropped a piece of bread which rolled away behind some nearby bike sheds - I did not follow up in the offer.

Hey Hercules...

Many years ago, Mrs S and I were travelling everywhere in the east, and one night stayed in Six Forks Rd, Raleigh, NC.

Because we were still nervous of where to go and eat even, we spent some time in Bennigans, on the biggest meal we've ever seen!

When we went to settle up, the barman (after he saw we were English), wanted to start the Irish troubles all over again, and we had to admit the 'U2' were the biggest and best band in the universe before we got the large Jack Daniels we really wanted!

Sadly, I've still got the receipt -$47.11 all up!

You've not got it so bad I hope... Italians are lovely people really...

£ 150 per person at PH is impressive, that's a very substantial amount of poor quality food and wine - bet you liked it from about the 3rd bottle of red (or 9th bottle of grolsch) onwards though!
