In or around 1997 or 1998 the Tuscan attended a fine art sale at John Nicholson Auctioneers in Fernhurst, West Sussex, a few hundred yards from his then house. His eye was caught by a rather intriguing painting of Mao Tse Tung, by an artist unknown to him, Pietro Psaier. Speaking with John Nicholson, it was explained that he was a friend of Andy Warhol, with whom he worked at the end of the sixties/beginning of the seventies, and subsequently had, it was thought, become a monk in Nepal. The Tuscan bid for the piece, and won, and as the Tuscana loathes the work with a vengeance it has stayed in a cupboard since then, with only the frame having been taken by her for one of her own works (boo hiss).

By chance, the Tuscan mate staying here for the last two weeks mentioned in passing he owned a work attributed to Andy Warhol, but unsigned. The Tuscan started researching a little re Pietro on the net, and found some extraordinary things had been going on in the last year or so, but especially in the last few days regarding the fellow, and also that John Nicholson have an upcoming sale dedicated to him.
To be continued...

I hope you didn't expend too many of your ill-gotten guineas on this, Tuscan. If you bought it as a punt, you've had a good run for your money, I suppose, but if you are having to rely on Uri Geller for provenance, I'd say you're up shit creek.
Much more interesting would be a piccy of the Tuscana's brushstrokes in the old frame.
South of £ 250 if I recall. This, in City salary/no kids days was the equivalent of £ 2.50 in today's money.
Fascinating TT...just love these kinds of mysteries..."PP" is probably in a shed somewhere in the lake district churning out Pollocks etc... Interesting painting though :-)
Mr Idle
From what I ascertained during his rare moments of verbal coherence the Tuscan ponce seems to makes his investment decisions aided by a set of darts and a copy of the Racing Post.
ilith, like Kit Williams' Masquerade.
Beast - are you suggesting that you yourself DON'T do it like that, then? Pah!
The beast is long and wrong on gold, Tuscan, so go easy on him.

I became a big fan of Andy Warhol after he painted my avatar for me.
Honest.
Were you given Masquerade too Tuscan? :-(
Interesting story, Bloggone. Seems a trifle fishy.
Idle - bet he now regrets knocking out all his teeth and replacing them with yellow metal last winter.
Lakes - now you mention it; was he a fan of Cumbria too?
Lilith - yes, and what a con!
Fleet, believe it or not the expert on Warhol to whom I have told the story has updated me on some exciting further data, which will be posted when I have the fll story.
Classy post and a classy painting.
Great story, Tuscan.
